The Township of Langley watching Kinder Morgan expansion plans

The Mayor of Langley Township says he is keeping an eye on Kinder Morgan’s plans to twin its existing pipeline but at the moment it is a wait and see game.

Jack Froese says with ten or so miles of pipeline running right through Walnut Grove some people in the area are concerned.

“Oh for sure, yeah, I have already spoken to a couple of residents and they have let me know you know their feelings about it. We certainly have to address that. You know for Langley it is about ten or eleven miles of pipeline and it is a huge project which I am sure the province and the federal government are regulating, and they are the regulatory bodies, but definitely it comes to us and we have to make sure that it is looked after properly.”

Froese says at the moment there is little the township can do one way or another over the Kinder Morgan plans.

“Had a meeting with them, a preliminary meeting, and they do have a pipeline that was installed in 1956 that went right through, well then it was no Walnut Grove, and it goes right through there and they do have extra right of way, enough right of way to twin it, but they have not come in front of us yet for any permit and I will treat them the same as I would any other construction company.”

The pipeline also runs through populated areas of Kamloops, Chilliwack, Abbotsford, and Burnaby.
