Thieves have a new ruse to try and snatch your cellphone.
Richmond RCMP say they’ve already heard about the scenario in which a suspect approaches someone, asks for the time, and when the person takes out their phone to check, grabs it and runs away.
Now, they have a new trick.
Suspects now tell a target they have an emergency and need their cellphone to make a call.
The Good Samaritan hands over their phone and the crook once again makes off with it.
Mounties in Richmond say this has happened four times in the past week.
They say people should not hand over their phones if they find themselves in a similar situation.
Don’t admit you’re carrying a phone and go to a nearby business to call police.
Or simply tell the person claiming to have an emergency to do the same.
