Next year’s budget for the school year was the topic of a townhall meeting hosted by the Vancouver District Parent Advisory Council Thursday night.
School Board Chair Patti Bacchus says about 35 representatives from Parent Advisory Councils across Vancouver came out to talk about what the budget looks like for 2013/2014.
Bacchus says a lot of the discussion was about the importance of parents being advocates for the school system, “The DPAC members were stressing to the parents there that it’s really important for parents to speak out, to be in contact with their MLA’S. We need to make public education funding an election issue. It really wasn’t last time, the last election, and the parents there certainly felt that we need to be speaking out more about the importance of appropriately funded education systems.”
Bacchus says preliminary predictions forecast the District will have a shortfall of about 24-million dollars.
