Fares for buses, Skytrain, and West Coast Express are going up as of January first next year.
Translink’s Derek Zabel says they expect to raise 32-million dollars with the fare hikes.
“We are going up two-percent per year and this is something that was set by the Commissioner that we are allowed to raise Transit fares by two-percent per year so we are going back to 2008 so you are looking at an overall raise of about ten-percent on your fares.”
However, Zabel says monthly passes aren’t regulated by legislation so they will increase by twelve percent, not ten.
He says monthly pass holders will still get value “relative to the short term fare increases.”
West Coast Express Fares are going up twelve and a half percent.
