Translink CEO writes to staff defending bonuses, blaming media coverage

Translink’s CEO has sent an email to employees in which he tries to explain how he and other company executives are compensated.

The email, obtained by CKNW News, blames the media for getting in wrong when it comes to bonuses.

Ian Jarvis starts off his email by saying it is “disheartening” for him and the entire executive team to be the subject of sustained media coverage.

He says the media has characterized one element of compensation as bonuses, but Jarvis says that is not accurate.

He says the correct term is “risk incentive” that goes up to 15 percent.

To get that, Jarvis says, the organization must first make corporate targets and then each executive must meet their own personal targets.

He finishes the email by saying, “Continuing to deliver services with our customers in mind is one way we will be able to help the public move beyond this phase of intense scrutiny.”
