A Winnipeg-based bus manufacturer has won a 26-million dollar contract to provide new buses for Translink.
The contract gives New Flyer Industries an initial order of 42 buses, but that could increase to as much as 87.
Translink’s Drew Snider says the new diesel electric-hybrids will replace older buses at the end of their life cycle.
“It has the best fuel economy of the diesel-electric hybrid buses, which is good news for us here… especially with the price of fuel.”
They’ll be delivered by the middle of next year, 90 per cent funded by the federal gas tax.
