Translink on track to save millions despite corporate costs forecast to increase

The Vice-Chair of the Translink Mayor’s Council says he thinks Translink has lived up to its responsibility as best as it can, of acting to find efficiencies.

This after the release of a report from Translink commissioner Martin Crilly on the progress made in finding between 40 and 60 million dollars in cost savings over the next three years.

“We still need a long-term funding strategy that meets the vision for the region, that looks at not only maintaining the services we have but also expanding them to meet the needs of growth that we’re gonna be seeing in the coming decade,” says Peter Fassbender.

The Commission has concluded the Transit Authority is on track to meet the challenge of finding the savings, and says Translink will meet that goal if it stays the course.

It says among the improvements made, is tighter bus scheduling without affecting service to the public.

But, it adds corporate costs are to increase sharply.
