Trial date for accused in Szendrei murder pushed back

The trial for the teen accused of murdering Laura Szendrei has been pushed back.

The trial in Surrey provincial court will now start a week later – on Aug. 20 – for the case of the then-17-year-old accused of killing the Delta teen.

Fifteen-year-old Szendrei’s badly beaten body was found in Mackie Park on Sept. 25, 2010 and she died the next day.

Police have never officially revealed how Szendrei was killed.

A number of weeks have been set aside for the trial – expected to go, on-and-off, until Oct. 4 – but the dates could still change.

The accused killer cannot be named, under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
