A California truck driver accused of murdering his former girlfriend more than a decade ago will spend the next three days hearing testimony at a preliminary court inquiry in Vancouver.
Ninderjit Singh Soos has been in custody since he was arrested last summer and quickly extradited to Canada.
Police had been looking for him since January of 1999 when 18-year old Poonam Randhawa was shot dead as she sat in a car owned by Soos in Vancouver.
This week’s preliminary inquiry, which determines whether there’s enough evidence to go to trial, will focus mainly on an attempted murder charge involving a May 1997 shooting outside a popular indian movie theatre on Kingsway Street.
As he entered the courtroom, Soos –who now has a long beard and hair pulled back in a ponytail– briefly nodded to family members in the gallery.
