Two months in and here’s a call for reinforcements

It’s only been eight weeks since the Independent Investigations Office has been up and running and already there are plans to beef up the ranks.

Chief Civilian Director Richard Rosenthal says right now there are 28 investigators and four more will be added in coming weeks.

Rosenthal was asked, with eight cases under investigation, if he’s feeling the pinch in terms of resources, “I would definitely say our resources are being adequately used at the current time. We feel as though we can keep up. The numbers are not unanticipated. We knew this could happen but certainly we have a lot of significant cases that we’re going to have to get through in the next few months.”

Rosenthal says long term, a satellite office in northern BC may be a possibility.

The I-I-O conducts criminal investigations into incidents that involve BC police officers and result in death or serious harm.
