U-Pass sales lead woman to fraud charges

A 25 year old former UBC student is set to be in Court December 14th to face fraud charges.

Transit Police say Vancouver’s Betty Sze Yu Wong is accused of purchasing numerous U-Passes from students of four post secondary institutions and reselling them for profit on Craigslist.

They say she bought the passes at a reduced rate. She’s charged with 2 counts of fraud.

The investigation is continuing into those who sold Wong the passes and those who bought them from her.

The U-Pass is a 3-zone transit pass sold to students for cheaper than a 3-zone pass would be to others. The purchase of a U-Pass is built into tuition fees at institutions that have the program.
