People living on Denman Island don’t seem to be onboard with the idea of a new cable ferry running to Buckley Bay. That according to NDP MLA Nicholas Simons who attended Thursdays meeting.
Simons says people spent hours asking BC Ferries representatives questions, “I think Denman Islanders are concerned that it is untested technology. Will it be able to sail in the same sea conditions, will there be more cancellations? You know, will they also have to undergo service reductions that the Minister threatened? So, you know, these kind of questions need to be answered and I think the turn out was significant, obviously showing the islanders are concerned.”
If the proposal is approved, it would be the longest salt water cable ferry route in the country.
