Union says government made some bad decisions

The union representing BC Hydro and ICBC workers, the Canadian Office and Professional Employees Union, is shaking it’s head after Tuesday’s Budget.

COPE President David Black says the Government continues to take BC Hydro and ICBC dividends, “In the case of BC Hydro, I think that unfortunately, we have to pay the piper on some bad decisions that this Government has made.”

However, Black says with ICBC, the Government could have chosen to rebate drivers who are being overcharged for insurance, “The case of ICBC, they are taking money out now and charging people too much. When Manitoba found itself in the same situation, where they had overcharged for insurance, they gave a bunch of that money back to the drivers. And it is time that this Government started doing the same thing.”

He says the Government is going to take one point two billion dollars, just from ICBC.
