UPDATE: Tsunami alert after 7.5 magnitude quake in Alaska

Tsunami advisories for BC’s coastal areas from the border to North Vancouver Island have been cancelled, but the tsunami warning for BC from the North Tip of Vancouver Island to Alaska remain in effect.

This after an earthquake near Dixon Alaska just before midnight Saturday.

It was originally believed to be a magnitude 7.7 quake, but has since been downgraded to a 7.5.

There have been several aftershocks with magnitudes as high as 5.7.

The coast guard is urging low-laying areas on the north coast to move inland.
