Updated: Crown seeks jail time for looting hockey rioters

The fact she’s a first-time offender doesn’t detract from the fact she encouraged others to commit crimes.

That’s one reason why prosecutors want admitted Stanley cup rioter Camille Cacnio to spend time in jail.

The 21-year-old UBC student, who stole two pairs of men’s pants and a tie from a downtown tuxedo shop, was caught on video looting the Black and Lee store.

Crown counsel Daniel Porte says she should spend up to 30 days in custody and up to 100 hours doing community service, but he’s willing to let her serve the jail time on weekends.

Her lawyer, Jason Tarnow, has yet to make his submissions to a provincial court judge, but he’s expected to seek a conditional sentence – meaning no time in jail.

Shortly after the riot, Cacnio was fired from her job at a local car dealership.

Meanwhile, another Stanley cup rioter has already learned his fate.

Luke Douglas George Patillo will be going to jail, but with a catch.

He’ll save 45 days intermittently only on weekends.

The 21-year-old Abbotsford man pleaded guilty to participating in a riot earlier this year.

He was caught on camera vandalizing cars and looting a London Drugs.

In a letter of apology, Patillo talks about how he had been affected by the death of his father a couple of years ago and the resulting stress of having to care for his disabled brother.

The provincial court judge says she believes Patillo is fully remorseful and essentially already rehabilitated.

But despite his youth and clean record to date, she concludes incarceration was still needed.
