UPDATED: Stanley Cup rioter’s lawyer delivers apology

Saying he still doesn’t understand why he did it, Robert Snelgrove has now formally apologized for looting a downtown department store during last year’s Stanley Cup riot.

The first convict to escape jail time refused to read the five-paragraph statement outside court.

His lawyer – Chandra Corriveau – delivered it on his behalf.

“To the people of the City of Vancouver and the province of BC, I want to start off by saying how much I wish I could turn back time and make better choices the night of June 15th, 2011. But dwelling on something you cannot change is pointless. The best thing to do is to realize how big a mistake that you have made and try to fix it as best you can and take the opportunity to learn from it.”

The 25-year-old wraps up saying he won’t try to make another excuse for his behaviour that night, ending with ‘It was simply wrong and I’m sorry.’

Snelgrove was one of the first rioters to turn himself in.
