ICBC is taking its union to court, claiming workers are using company email addresses to promote their side in their ongoing labour dispute.
ICBC says workers have been including a link to the union’s website in those signatures, and that the website uses images which closely resemble official logos trademarked by the company.
ICBC says it told the union to stop using the signatures multiple times, but the union ignored those requests.
The union in question is the Canadian Office and Professional Employees union.
ICBC says over 10-thousand emails were sent with the altered signatures on July 18th alone.
Lori Mayhew with COPE 378 says the union doesn’t deny those claims.
“As far as we’re concerned it’s no different than the members wearing a button with the same message or handing a leaflet to the members of the public as they come into the claims centres.”
ICBC is seeking a court injunction against the e-mails sent out using modified signatures, as well as financial compensation for business lost.
