The US attorney who prosecuted BC’s prince of pot has joined the chorus to decriminalize marijuana.
Echoing more and more calls to decriminalize, former prosecutor John Mckay says the war on drugs has failed.
Currently a law professor at Seattle University, Mckay is fighting for an initiative in Washington that would regulate marijuana and get the tax revenue from it.
“And those proceeds would be earmarked under our initiative that has been submitted to the people for use in public health models, rather than law enforcement models.”
Mckay argues gangs in BC and cartels in Mexico are profiting from the black market that criminal prohibition has created and that needs to change.
Mckay approved the arrest of marc emery in 2005, who had been selling pot seeds to American citizens by mail.
