It was 115 years ago that Robert Kelly and Frank Douglas transformed their passion for coffee into a household name.
You may not know it, but Nabob Coffee Company started out as a little factory in Gastown and has been growing ever since.
To celebrate its birthday, Nabob turned Robson Square into a jazz and java-infused celebration site fit for a city that loves its coffee.
With musicians jamming and dozens of people sipping Joe on the outdoor patio, the feel was of a European plaza, but the event was pure Canadian.
“It’s got that Canadian heritage,” said Andrea Nickel, brand manager for Nabob Coffee Company. “We are trying to tie back to that community involvement that Nabob had right from the start.”
Chef Julian Bond and students from the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts created special lemon Nabob birthday cupcakes to hand out, paired specifically to Nabob coffee with a little coffee bean on top.
Vancouver Board of Trade was also presented with a $ 10,000 donation from Nabob Coffee Company to the Spirit of Vancouver Initiative.
Nabob is one of the only coffee companies that exist solely in Canada and selects coffee from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms.
