Vancouver murder victim involved in drug trade

Vancouver Police have confirmed the city’s first murder of the year was targeted, but they’re not convinced it was gang-related.

The victim was a 19 year old man from Vancouver who was attacked at Elgin Street near 47th Avenue last night around 10:30.

He died from injuries caused by a sword, but that weapon has not been recovered.

Police say three of up to five suspects are now in custody.

The victim did not have a criminal record, but he was known to police who say the attack may have been linked to the drug trade, but is not necessarily gang related.
