Following a recommendation in last year’s Stanley cup riot report, Vancouver’s police department is looking to purchase a pair of utility terrain vehicles.
Const. Lindsey Houghton explains how they’d come in handy.
“They’re very agile, they can get in and out crowds very quickly. Plus, they can (go) from one area of downtown very, very quickly and that’s something that we hope to use them for in the future.”
Houghton adds the vehicles – known as “gators” – would be useful for moving officers or injured citizens during a riot.
The Vancouver Police Foundation is promising to cover $ 55,000 of the $ 66,000 cost.
The city is being asked to fund the rest.
