Vancouver’s Pride Parade ready to paint the town

It’s one of the city’s biggest parties of the year.

Half a million people are expected to pack the streets in Vancouver’s West End tomorrow for the annual Pride Parade.

The parade get started around noon, moving west from Robson and Bute streets, turning down Denman – all the way to Beach Avenue.

Vancouver Pride Society president Tim Richards says the event only gets bigger every year and it’s been around for almost 35 years.

“I think what we’re seeing is a number of people, more and more people, are embracing diversity and really being more inclusive in our society, which is absolutely fabulous.”

The event is also expected to inject millions of dollars into the local economy.

Notable people taking part include Vancouver Canuck Manny Malhotra and transgender beauty queen Jenna Talackova, one of the grand marshals.
