VCC overwhelmed by ESL students

The demand for tuition free E-S-L courses is overwhelming staff at Vancouver Community College.

Earlier this year, the provincial government announced it would foot the bill for the courses.

And this morning, up to five hundred people stood in line to register.

“At a certain point we had to stop the line because we said we know beyond that we aren’t going to be able to accomodate everyone that’s lined up there.”

VCC’s Helen Carkner says it’s not clear yet how many folks had to be turned away.

The courses are free for all Canadian citizens.
