Vigil for ‘Captain’ well attended

Several hundred people gathered last night to remember ‘Captain,’ the German Shepherd who died after being found badly injured in a dumpster.

The group had a moment of silence before marching down Arbutus Street towards the beach.

There was relief Captain’s owner was taken in custody, even if it was for an unrelated matter, “Absolutely, and to be honest, it was definitely disheartening just to know that he was still out there and just not taking responsibility for his actions. It is just hard to picture why people would do something like that to an animal. I just hope that there is enough rules around our laws that we can put some punishment, if he is found guilty of course. Now we will be able to put some resources together to make sure that he is treated the way he should be treated as provided for by the law now.”

The crowd want laws against animal cruelty toughened.
