Vancouver’s mayor has launched a new program rounding up volunteers to police major events and help emergency crews in case there is a natural disaster.
Gregor Robertson says the Vancouver Volunteers Corp will be given formal training by local firefighters who will also manage the team.
The idea stems from last year’s Stanley Cup riot report.
The program will be modeled after the city’s successful Blue Jacket volunteer force utilized during the winter Olympics.
