Waterfront property has it’s issues

City of Vancouver staff say we’re luckier than other places when it comes to rising sea levels, but the problem is still worth considering.

Tamsin Mills, a Vancouver climate change planner, says the City is using Provincial guidelines to find out how high buildings must be built off the ground to not be damaged by flooding, “We’re undertaking an engineering study that will apply the guidelines, site specifically, around Vancouver and we partnered with the Port Metro Vancouver to do that.”

The BC Environment Ministry says we should plan for flood waters to rise by half a metre by the year 2050.

Mills says areas that require attention are on the Fraser River, Burrard Inlet, False Creek and English Bay.
