Weather shuts Fire River Gold mine and mill

VANCOUVER – Fire River Gold Corp. (TSXV:FAU) said Monday it has shut down its Nixon Fork gold mine in Alaska as bad weather has delayed flights into the project for 10 days.

The move was taken to conserve fuel, the company said in a statement. In the past, flights have not been delayed for more than three days, but the company had built in additional fuel storage.

Fire River said its crews have not been able to change for their normal rotations and food supplies are low, “but morale on site is as high as can be expected in these conditions.”

With weather forecast to improve over the next few days, the company said it believes it will be able to resume normal operations at that time.

“Although this is an unfortunate event the Company is doing everything it can to resolve the situation safely and thanks its employees for their patience and its staff for their work plus its air carriers for their support,” vice-president Tim Smith said in a statement.

Nixon Fork in Alaska’s Tintina Gold Belt, Fire River’s main property, contains a power plant, maintenance facilities, drilling equipment, an 85 person camp and a landing strip. The is also exploring other deposits in the area.
