The NDP’s Ferry Critic is scratching his head over the Province asking for bidders to do consultations with ferry users and ferry reliant communities.
The contract for tender is looking for someone to gather feedback on ferries services and possible cuts.
But Gary Coons says lots of consultations have already been done, so why waste the money, “I think it is going to be embarrassing, you know, a Ferry Commissioner, an independent regulator went out to all the communities, did an in-depth consultation and now there is going to be this independent contractor. I don’t think there is going to be the reaction there. I think people are going to be upset, they are going to be concerned the Government is going in this direction.”
He says the answer is staring the Government in the face: high fares are leading to less ferry users, end of story.
