What’s the buzz?

The air in Pitt Meadows could soon be buzzing a little more.

The city is considering allowing beekeeping in urban areas, it held an information meeting Monday.

Councillor Gwen O’Connell says the idea has been prompted by a few people who’ve come forward wondering why the city doesn’t have the same by-laws as other cities that allow it.

O’Connell is opposed to the idea, “We’ve got eighty-five percent of our land is in agricultural land, it’s in the alr, and so we don’t have the problems like the cities do where they don’t have any farmland, we have tons of farmland, so our farmers need those bees to be down in their fields.”

Meanwhile, O’Connell says those in favour say bee keeping will allow them to have their own honey, and it’ll help the farming community because the bees will be able to pollinate.
