The BC Government will save a lot of money during the three day teachers’ strike.
A Ministry of Education spokesperson says the government will save $ 33 million total, or $ 11 million a day, by not having to pay teachers between Monday and Wednesday while they are striking.
The province saved about $ 150 million over the course of the 9 day 2005 teachers strike but in that case, support workers also walked off the job.
This time, they’re being told to keep working.
However, CUPE is instructing them not to perform any student supervision work.
