A co-founder of Wikipedia was in town for the Canadian Bar Association’s annual Legal Conference.
Jimmy Wales says that as his online co-operative encyclopedia grows, he’s been allowing others to take on bigger roles.
“I have a great deal of influence but no actual power, which is exactly the way I think it should be. Meaning if I lead people and I say the right things that people agree with and believe in, it has an impact and we can move forward. But, if I say things that people don’t agree with, which sometimes happens, then they just ignore me, and that’s fine, because it’s a community.”
Wales, who is 46, says he has no plans of leaving his position as chairman of the Wikimedia Foundation, but says ‘nothing bad would happen to Wikipedia’ if anything happened to him.
