Workers sue home of The Grand Slam Breakfast

A 10-million dollar class action lawsuit has now been certified, with more than 70 migrant workers taking the company that operates Denny’s Restaurants to Court.

The workers allege they paid thousands of dollars in recruiting fees in their home counties, like the Philippines, and were promised work at the restauants.

Lawyer Charles Gordon, “They had to pay their own airfare to fly to Vancouver and home and that Denny’s didn’t give them as many hours as they were promised. Then, when they did get extra hours, they weren’t paid sufficient overtime.”

Gordon says the workers will also be seeking punitive damages.

The companies in question are Northern Properties Corporation and Dencan Restaurants.
