Vancouver police look to appoint unarmed peace officers

Vancouver police are setting up a $ 6.5-million pilot program for community safety. It's based on a model from the UK. If approved, 30 full-time and unarmed peace officers will be appointed – starting April 1. The team's purpose is to respond to non-priority calls. The Canada Border Services Agency says the customs officer who was shot yesterday remains in stable condition in hospital. Emergency crews are dealing with a shooting at the Peace Arch Border crossing.  A Canadian Border Services Agency officer was shot in the neck shortly before 2pm and the man who shot her then  shot himself in the head.
