Over the past decade or so, the world has undergone a massive shift thanks to the creations and subsequent popularity of mobile technology. When you consider the fact that the first iPhone only came out in 2007, and how commonplace smartphones are in our day to day lives now, it’s pretty staggering! Now that we’re ten years on, I thought I’d take a look back at how mobile has changed the world…

Long before anyone had heard of Angry Birds, the international business arena was discovering all that mobile technology would mean for the way modern companies operate. The massive number of communication and productivity functions that are now literally at our fingertips is nothing short of incredible. Whether a company runs a BYOD policy or provide corporate-owned devices, countless business processes have now been mobilised. The popularity and accessibility of mobile tech has also given rise to totally new business niches, as seen with firms like this one: https://irisplatform.io . Mobile email and IM, along with video calls, collaboration, and things like CRM platforms are all changing the standards of modern business, and this certainly isn’t expected to change soon!
The Way We Relax

The professional applications of mobile tech really took off straight away, but the recreational ones weren’t far behind. According to a study on http://www.gamesindustry.biz/, American smartphone owners spent an average of 44 minutes a day and 33 on gaming apps throughout 2015. Think about that; well over an hour a day screwing around on our phones! I probably don’t have to tell you that the smartphone gaming niche has come a long way from catapulting birds at pigs, and these days it’s possible to get almost any genre on a pocket-sized screen. Whether you like cutesy farming simulators or first-person-shooters with zombies, there’s a game for you on one of the major app markets. Travel apps, as well, have had a massive impact on our leisure time. Booking flights, finding hotel rooms, translating signs in another language and simply research landmarks is easier than ever with the wide range of apps directed at the modern traveller. Modern smartphones have even facilitated programs for athletes who want to make sure they’re reaching their cardio goals, work on their golf or tennis swings, and so on.
The Way We Live

Smartphones and tablets have also had a fairly profound impact on the way we live from day to day. Most notably, it’s dealt a massive blow to the electronics industry! Our phones have more or less replaced a great deal of digital products, like alarm clocks, watches, flashlights, cameras, and so on. Other day-to-day functions of smartphones also include finding restaurants and cabs, scheduling appointments, and looking up timetables for public transport. Social media apps, as well, have become part of day-to-day life for countless people around the world. Now that mobile technology is out of the bag, the way consumers interact with businesses will never be the same!
There you have just a few of the most significant ways mobile has changed the world.
