5 Tips For Doubling The Number of Trips You Take Each Year

OK, hands up: who wants to go on more trips than they’re currently going on? We’re going to take a guess, and say that’s…just about everyone. And why not? Travelling is just about the most fun activity you can do! New horizons, meeting new people, learning more about yourself; it’s addictive! Alas, there’s such a thing as that pesky ‘real life’ thing that often makes it difficult to travel as much as we’d like. However, by adopting a few practices, you can quickly improve the number of trips you take each year. Here’s how.

Use Your Time Wisely

If you’re in a full-time job, then you won’t have as much time as you’d like to travel. You only got so many days off from work, after all. As such, it’s important that you use your time wisely. If there’s a national holiday coming up on a Friday and Monday, for instance, then book one day off each side. All of a sudden, you have six days away from work –  more than enough time to go on a short trip away.

Don’t Overdo It

One thing that most people overlook about travelling is how tiring it can be. If you’re using every second of your holiday leave at work to travel, and then try to cram in as much as possible, then you’re going to return home very tired. And the idea of going away anytime soon after that won’t be too appealing. Instead, leave something “in the tank.” Just visit one destination at a time, and do it properly. You should always ensure that you’re leaving your visited destination wanting to stay for longer, rather than overly tired and in need of a break.

Change Your Habits

There’s a big secret about travelling: it doesn’t have to be anywhere near as expensive as people think. Indeed, if you know a few travel tricks, then you can significantly reduce the cost of travelling. Of course, if you want to fly first class and eat at expensive restaurants each night, then you’re going to be spending a lot of money. But the reality is that travel can be more than affordable – even cheap – if you’re willing to change your travel habits a little.

Look Local

When people think of travelling, they usually think of some far-flung destination that involves a long plane journey, hotels, visas, and so on. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Within a couple of hours drive from your home, there will be interesting destinations you’ve never visited before: we guarantee it. Next time you have a free weekend, look at taking a trip to a local area. You can still get all the benefits of travelling, even if the destination isn’t quite as exotic as other places.

Make it a Priority

Finally, remember the true trick to travelling more: making it a priority! A lot of people want to travel, but don’t do anything about it. Promise yourself that next year you’ll travel more, and you probably will.
