“Avengers” Just Shot An Extra Scene?

Marvel’s much anticipated “The Avengers” screened for Los Angeles critics on Wednesday night to a strong response, while early tracking figures have emerged indicating enough interest for potentially the biggest opening weekend yet for a Marvel film (“Iron Man 2” currently holds the record with $ 128 million).

Yesterday however was the big press conference (full transcript) for the movie, a media event which ended on a rather odd note. The last words out of Robert Downey Jr.’s mouth were “We are shooting one more scene. Tonight. Not kidding”. The conference then ended so no-one could ask him a follow-up question.

For the next few hours different outlets debated whether Downey was being serious. Joss Whedon started a second press conference immediately after the first by denying it, Marvel’s Kevin Feige later dismissed the claim as well.

Actor Mark Ruffalo however went on the record, telling The Playlist that “We’re shooting a scene tonight. I’m not sure exactly where it’s gonna go. All I know is that someone came in with the costume and said, ‘Here’s some wardrobe. We don’t know where you’re going to be or what you’re doing’… So I’m like, ‘All right, when are we doing that?’ Today after we’re done.”

Whatever was shot, best guesses are some sort of post-credits tag hinting at another Marvel film, it will likely make its debut on public prints of the film when it begins rolling out worldwide from April 25th.
