Over the weekend Michael Bay dropped a rather unexpected comment that Platinum Dunes’ “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” reboot would feature an alien origin for the half-shelled heroes.
The news caused something of an online furore, fans of the characters quickly slamming the “Transformers” helmer and those working on the film for the change.
Now, Bay has responded to the negative feedback on his official website. In a statement he says:
“Fans need to take a breath, and chill. They have not read the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles to help expand and give a more complex back story. Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world.”
Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec (“Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol”) are penning the script for the film which Jonathan Liebesman is tipped to direct for a release Christmas 2013.
