Acting veteran Chris Cooper (“The Bourne Identity,” “The Muppets”) has signed on to play Norman Osborn in Marc Webb’s “The Amazing Spider-Man” sequel at Sony Pictures.
The character of the terminally ill head of Oscorp is pivotal in the saga, and was only seen as a darkened facial silhouette graphic in the early scenes of the first film.
In the comics, Osborn starts out as a mentor to the superhero before turning into the evil Green Goblin. No word as yet if we’ll see that transition in this film.
Cooper will take over the role made famous by Willem Dafoe in the previous Sam Raimi-directed trilogy.
