Acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro and “Fantastic Mr. Fox” animation director Mark Gustafson are teaming to co-direct the “Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio”, a 3D stop-motion animated production for the Jim Henson Company reports Variety.
Matthew Robbins penned the screenplay which has Carlo Collodi’s legendary puppet embarking on a series of adventures and proving himself to be as indestructible as his love for his father. The story will be set in Italy between WWI and WWII, a time “when everyone was behaving like a puppet, except for puppets” says Del Toro.
The “Pan’s Labyrinth” director was originally only slated to produce but has come around to co-directing due to the project’s sheer scale and complexity. A year-long shoot aims to kick off next Summer.
