Depp’s “Thin Man” Remake Moves Forward

With “The Lone Ranger” seemingly defunct, Johnny Depp isn’t sitting around and is already moving on another project he’s attached to – the planned remake of “The Thin Man” at Warner Bros. Pictures, Infinitum Nihil Company and Langley Park Pictures.

According to Deadline scribe David Koepp (“Secret Window”) has come onboard to pen the script, taking over for Jerry Stahl who was previously attached as screen writer but apparently never got started on the project.

The original 1934 film starred William Powell and Myrna Loy, and was based on Dashiell Hammett’s novel which Koepp is expected to go back to. The story follows an alcoholic former P.I. named Nick Charles and his wealthy heiress wife Nora who investigate a murder that involves an eccentric inventor and his bizarre family.

These polished and sophisticated society types spend as much time engaging in witty banter with each other as they do investigating the crime. Five sequels were produced. Depp is already set to play Nick, no word on who’ll play Nora as yet.

Rob Marshall remains attached to direct while Depp, Marshall, DeLuca, Kevin McCormick and Christi Dembrowski are producing.
