Kubrick’s Napoleon Becomes A Spielberg Mini

Steven Spielberg is developing a biographical mini-series about Napoleon Bonaparte. Spielberg himself revealed the news during an interview recently with Canal+.

The twist here is that the project was originally penned by Stanley Kubrick as a feature film screenplay back in 1961. The filmmaker abandoned the project in the 1970s due to budget and production challenges.

Kubrick left behind extensive research archives on the subject, having spent years extensively exploring the French emperor’s life.

Spielberg says he’s working with the late filmmaker’s estate on the project. Spielberg’s 2001 effort “A.I.: Artificial Intelligence” similarly began life as a Kubrick project.
