“Ouija” Rebooted On The Cheap

After putting the project into turnaround last year, Universal Pictures is reversing its decision and has started production again on their film adaptation of the Hasbro board game “Ouija” reports Variety.

This new version however will be very different from the previous take which was looking to be a big-budget action-adventure tentpole and had McG attached to direct.

Now it will be a scaled down genre film done on a budget of just $ 5 million with the story still revolving around the board game that lets players communicate with the spirit world. McG is no longer involved.

Platinum Dunes producers Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller will remain onboard, joining them though will be “Paranormal Activity” production company Blumhouse.

Production aims to get underway this year for release in 2013.
