“The Departed” director Martin Scorsese and scribe William Monahan are teaming for another remake, this time Karel Reisz’s 1974 drama “The Gambler” says Deadline.
The original film is loosely based on Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s short novel of the same name and followed a New York City English professor (James Caan) with a basketball game gambling addiction. His descent leads to him extorting his mother and forcing one of his students to rig a basketball game.
Leonardo DiCaprio is wanted for the lead role but no deal is in place yet. Irwin Winkler will produce but there’s no word on a scheduled as yet – Scorsese is slated to direct both “Silence” and “The Wolf of Wall Street”.
