A year-and-a-half ago Megan Ellison’s Annapura Pictures won the bidding rights to “The Terminator” franchise with plans to launch a new series of films. Now, she has closed the complicated rights deal with Pacificorp. She’s also enlisted the help of her brother, David Ellison, as her financial and creative partner on film.
While she runs Annapura, he runs Skydance Productions which produced such films as “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” “Jack Reacher” and many of Paramount’s 2013 tentpoles including “Star Trek Into Darkness,” “World War Z,” “Jack Ryan” and “G.I. Joe: Retaliation”
No studio is presently attached to any future “Terminator” films, not even Paramount where Skydance has its deals in place, but any further movies will now be a co-production between Annapurna and Skydance.
They are also starting from scratch again on the project and are currently seeking a screenwriter. The clock is ticking however as the rights revert back to creator James Cameron in 2019.
