Spielberg Gives A Brief “Lincoln” Update

With “Tintin” and “War Horse” almost upon us, Steven Spielberg is turning his attention towards his next project “Lincoln” and he revealed a couple of new details in an interview with The Orlando Sentinel (via The Film Stage).

As we already know, this Abraham Lincoln biopic will utilise much of Doris Kearns Goodwin’s book “Team of Rivals”. Spielberg adds that “we’re only focusing in on the last four months of Abraham Lincoln’s life” and about the great work he did in those early months of 1865 before his assassination in mid-April.

Though set during the closing days of the American Civil War, Spielberg says this is “not a battlefield movie” but there will be battles in it. Also, to avoid becoming a political football, the movie “will be purposely coming out after next year’s election”.

Other things likely to be covered in the narrative include Lincoln’s landslide re-election, his second inaugural address, and the passing of the thirteenth amendment.

Finally, Spielberg says he’s definitely producing the Brett Ratner kids adventure flick “The 39 Clues” which should finally begin filming next year.
