The 2012 Oscar Winners

The 84th Annual Academy Award nominations have been announced with “The Artist” taking the big awards (Best Picture, Actor, Director) while “Hugo” dominated the other categories. Both scored five awards each, with the only thing even vaguely close to a surprise being that “Hugo” lost out on one technical category – film editing – to “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”.

Otherwise all the front runners in the awards race pretty much won their categories – Streep for actress, Plummer and Spencer in supporting roles, “A Separation” for foreign language film, “Rango” for animated film, and the scripts for “Midnight in Paris” and “The Descendants”.
