“The Dark Tower” Falls At Warners

It collapsed at Universal, now it looks like the ambitious film and television adaptations of Stephen King’s “The Dark Tower” series has fallen apart at Warner Bros. Pictures as well.

Variety reports that Warners has passed on the expensive project despite the latest draft of the script by Akiva Goldsman attracting interest from Russell Crowe.

Imagine Entertainment is now free to shop the project around to other studios, and already Deadline reports that Media Rights Capital is said to be in “serious talks” to finance it as one of the executives there is a big fan of the book series.

If they do go ahead, it’ll be something of an irony. MRC has a distribution arrangement with Universal meaning that ‘Tower’ could end up being a Universal movie again after all – albeit one only distributed by them rather than being produced as well.
