Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Reynolds are set to play Margaret and Walter Keane in an indie biopic about the famous art couple reports Reuters.
The Keane’s work, especially paintings of doe-eyed children, became a pop-culture phenomenon in the 1950s and 1960s. However their home life was anything but so pleasant.
Margaret was the artist but her husband took all the credit. In divorce they fought over the rights to their work with Margaret eventually winning out – painting a picture in federal court to prove she was the one responsible for the work.
“Ed Wood” and “The People vs. Larry Flint” scribes Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski wrote and will direct the film while Tim Burton, Lynette Howell and Jamie Patricof are producing.
