After a death and another close call the message is keep dogs leashed up near fast flowing rivers.

North Shore Search and Rescue has a message for dog owners, keep them leashed up near fast flowing rivers.

Search manager Tim Jones says they had to recover the body of a dog this morning after it was swept away in Lynn Valley over the weekend.

Then he says they were called out again today after a dog was almost swept away in the capilano river, but ended up stranded.

Jones said “And the owner, in talking to him we assessed the terrain we knew a helicopter rescue was the only way to do it. he paid for the helicopter and our members were inserted into a rocky area and were able to get to the dog without  having to do a long line rescue and got the dog out.”

Jones say the high snowpack is making rivers especially dangerous as the waters swell with melting run off.
