Assessment delayed for YVR jetfuel pipeline

New developments in the YVR jetfuel pipeline saga.

The airport’s fuel facilities corporation has been granted a suspension in its 180-day environmental assessment, citing the need for more time to carry out studies.

The proposal is for a pipeline to run under Highway 99, with an offloading facility on the south arm of the Fraser River.

Carol Day with VAPOR, the group steadfastly opposed to the plan, says she doesn’t think any more extensions should be granted.

“Is it logical for the people of B.C. to be required to wait indefinitely? Is this going to be a two-year, a three-year, a four-year process? It’s not fair, especially to the people who live along the Fraser River and are really, really worried.”

The City of Richmond also opposes the plan.

Day says more meetings with politicians are scheduled for the coming weeks.
